Definition of a Pennant

There are 2 schools of thought out there with regards to Nautical pennants.

School #1: The purpose of pennants at the bow of the boat is to indicate apparent wind direction to assist in the piloting the vessel (such as docking to determine at a glance the how much cross wind is present). This school of thought requires a pennant that is crafted from UV resistant flag material that is designed to fly in the wind. Also all thread used in these pennants are UV resistant. These pennants as with all nautical pennants and flags are read from port site of the vessel and will read opposite on the starboard side of the vessel (think US Flag, signal flags, Yacht club pennants.)

School #2: The Decorative School of thought. Disregard all of school #1 and make the pennant from thick non-flag material and double it up so it will be readable from both sides. These pennants will cost twice as much as they require twice as much embroidery and this pennant will not truly fly.

Welcome Aboard! Catalog sells mainly the School #1 pennant. However the School #2 is available for those who would like the double sided pennant.
