This charming decorative piece is actually a working replica of a thermometer invented by Galileo, the founder of modern physics. Based on his theory on gravity changes in liquids at different temperatures, this beautiful and accurate instrument is a marriage of art and science. Here is a beautiful twist on the traditional Galileo thermometer. Instead of 5 hand blown spheres floating in a single cylinder, the spheres have been separated into 5 cylinders and mounted in an arch shaped, single piece of Mahogany finished wood. Each sphere shows the temperature on a 24kt gold plated medallion. The spheres slowly move up & down as the temperature changes. As the temperature rises, the liquid expands and the spheres sink; the reverse happens when the temperature falls. Current temperature is shown by the lowest floating sphere.
